A creative Halloween

Ellie and Aubrie knew long ago that they were going to be Mother Gothel (from Rapunzel) and Hermione Granger (from Harry Potter) for Halloween this year. We came up with the plan to create Ellie's look, and while buying fabric for her cape, we saw the pattern to make Teyah's Rapunzel costume for only a dollar. So, I committed myself to quite the project! Then, Aubrie felt left out that she didn't have a costume mate, so she begged Daddy to be 'Mad-Eye Moody' with her. After creating everyone else's costume, I was pleased that Kyler was happy to be the store-bought puppy who followed these trick-or-treaters around!

These two were super cute together.

Ellie and I were both pleased with how her costume turned out.

Teyah's costume was definitely the most intricate outfit I've ever made! The detail on this baby was a fun challenge. The eyelets in the satin created an interesting dilemma because they were going to shred the fabric, so it took some ingenuity to conquer that piece. The sewn ribbon on the shoulders, lace details, and the fact that it is fully lined and has a tulle slip made this dress an amazing project! It's not often that I get to have 'fun' challenges like that as of late, so it made it all the more enjoyable. Aubrie, Ellie, and Teyah also loved seeing this dress come together over the course of two weeks and enjoyed helping make Teyah's hairpiece. Even though the cleanliness of my house suffered significantly, I think it was worth the time we spent working on it.

After reading the Harry Potter books this year, Aubrie had decided (in February) who she was going to be this year. This costume was made from cutting off the length of Daddy's MBA graduation gown, turning the excess fabric into a hood, lining it with burgundy fabric, and adding a patch purchased from Ebay. Yes, the MBA gown has been transformed into a Hogwarts Gryffindor gown! Daddy is such a good sport! We also found the perfect wand in the woods nearby to cap it off.

Kyler was the perfect puppy. He sure was cute. It didn't take him long to realize what was going on. He wasted no time saying "trick or treat" -- he simply stated "want candy!"

He was often leading the pack in search of more candy -- have we ever mentioned that this kid likes to EAT!?

We were pleasantly surprised that he kept his hood on. He seemed to really 'get' Halloween this year. So fun!

What a beautiful princess!

We decided to skip Mall of America trick or treating for the traditional neighborhood venture since we were treated to beautiful weather Halloween night. A rarity in Minnesota!
