I let Aubrie ride the bus home, and it was so stressful and emotional for me. Everything went just fine, despite my anxiety. In the car, while Aubrie was at school, we were listening to the "Mamma Mia" soundtrack. There's an ABBA song on it that goes like this:
Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that I'm losing her forever
And without really entering her world
I'm glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time ...
Well, as we were listening to it, Ellie said in a sad tone: "Mom, when I listen to this song, it makes me feel like my big sister is growing up too fast."
Holy cow! I burst into tears. How could my three-year-old come up with that one?! I was pondering that and my heart was warm. But then later in the day when I told Aubrie what Ellie had said, she laughed and responded:
"She said that because she just wants to be able to keep up!"
Where do these silly girls come from? I love them to pieces and hopefully they don't slip through my fingers.

I hate to tell you this, but the day when you say goodbye as they leave home for college will be there so fast you won't believe it! Enjoy every crazy, stressful minute because I promise you, if you are anything like me (and you are!) you will look back at this time of your life and say it was your absolute favorite!
Man, I can't beleive what a crazy week you had! I'm now not ashamed to admit that I cried just a little bit during that song while watching Mamma Mia. :)

That is just awesome! Kids say the most smazing things. They really get it more than we realize. It does go by so fast doesn't it?
Jen, this made me cry too. I look at my kids everyday and just wonder where the time has gone. I need to cherish and soak in every single minute with them.. I think with the first you dont realize how fast they grow until they are grown!!! I love them so much and dont want them to slip through my fingers!!! who sings this song?
This about had me in tears. Especially since our girls are all the same ages, I know this day (or week) is coming for me and I'm not ready. Luckily the school year here starts in January so I have a few more months. Hope all is well!
